bidding at ebay.com = no risc, no fun
If you are going to bid and to buy BAY Networks Centillions over ebay, you may have luck or not.
We did buy some C100 and many C1400 and C1600 for test purpose and for our German ATM rental business over ebay.com. So we did take them apart to view any module and spy for any tricks with the least risc. With some C100 there was no intention, to get them fully working again, but after a lot of research they did work again.
We did find what we did look for and we did try to fix broken MCP´s. And we got it. Now we have Feb. 2003 and up to today we have got more than 25 E-Mails with very loud help cries. Help: The MCD does no more work.
So what now ? There are sellers on ebay, who did try to upgrade their MCP to a higher version, not reading the four hours long manuals and taking care what was written in the manuals.
And it is truly written within many BAY Networks documentation PDF files, everything !
And you will find all upgrade information within our Documentation, you will find it all. The only thing is, you need a lot of time, to understand what they did and why. And you need the different speedview software versions, which are not public. Speedview is a property of Nortel (formerly Bay networks).
We did successfully buy many super large ATM switches over ebay.com from Nortel / Bay Networks (Centillion 1400 and 1600), working for weeks on the backdoor password. Now we got it by searching the google.com for weeks and talking to some really friendly people from Nortel Germany.
With the Centillions it is like the Ascend MAXen, you never know what revision (with what power supplies) you get. The C100´s were build in many revisions and versions.
Very old ones may look as new as new ones - and very new ones look as just comming back from the second world war or from vietnam.

Be careful and at least request the serialnumber. Better you leave a very very good deal than to waste 100 or 200 bucks or more. We heard about 400.- to 800.- dollars, all wasted.
So if you have got a C100, not comming up with the command line interface at the serial port, you are lost. You need to give it back . It is dead and beleave me, 99% of the old owners know about that. They  were looking for another fool, to buy the old scrap.
This is the unsuccessful result of a crashed update procedure.
We will add a page what we can do for you if you strongly need to get your C100 working. There is a reason, why Nortel says, they must have the MCP back in their labs. We will offer a more simple procedure but a little bit more risc for you. Comming soon.
Here are some hints for looking in ebay, what to bid and what not to bid on.

If you see a really cheap Centillion 100 with 4port Token Ring or 8port Ethernet cards with or without the MCP, these are the oldest cards not upgradable to speedview higher than 2.0. There is 1MB or 2MB flash on board and to little RAM.

You may buy 4 port 10/100TX Ethernet cards and 2port ATM 155 Mbit or 4 port ATM 155 Mbit cards.

The same with 16 port 10/100Mbit Ethernet, this are 4 hubs on the same old board but switched in groups of 4. This is not a real switch. If you like ot bid on a C100 with an MCP, request the revision and the amount of RAM, dont bid anything below 8/10 MByte. This is dead from the beginning.
